Master’s degree seeking applicants

Applicants which like to join a Master programme of Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences will have to satisfy the following entry requirements:

  • university entrance qualification (Abitur, Fachhochschulreife or international equivalent, e.g. high school leaving certificate)
  • first / undergraduate university degree (Bachelor, Diplom) in a subject area related to that of the master program you are intending to apply for
  • excellent English and / or German language skills

Application process in general

The application for one of our Master programmes has to be in writing using the appropriate application form of the selected Master programme. Please send it directly to the registration office in question. The correct address is printed on the application form. The official application forms can be obtained from the relevant contact persons for the Master programme in question.

Before doing the online application please read the guidelines for the application process that will help you to manage the online application:

Application deadline for all Master programmes at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences are

  • 15th July for the winter term
  • 15th January for the summer term

Some Master programmes only starts once a year – please check before applying.

Your completed application must arrive at the University of Applied Sciences not later than the mentioned deadlines.

Applications which are submitted after the deadline, or which are incomplete, will not be considered.

Please note that, for reasons of data protection, we are not able to give any information over the telephone about the status of your application.


Applicants with a first degree from a non-German institute must prove, before applying to Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences, that their Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a German first degree. This means they have to apply twice – once at the Studienkolleg Konstanz and once at our university. In order to have the qualifications validated, please contact the Studienkolleg – Center for International Students in Konstanz.

The Center for International Students will assess their Bachelor's degree and decide if it meets the requirements for entering a Master's degree programme in Germany.

The Center for International Students will confirm recognition with a paper of validation which must be sent together with the appropriate application to the university.

Please note the differing application deadlines of the Center for International Students:

  • 1st May for the winter semester
  • 1st November for the summer semester

Your application can only be considered if all required documents (including the certification of the Studienkolleg Konstanz) reached Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences on the due date (January 15 for the summer semester and July 15 for the winter semester). Please note that theses are cut-off periods.

Applicants from China, Vietnam or Mongolia have to submit the certificate of APS ("Akademische Prüfstelle") as well.

International applicants for Medical Informatics do not have to send their documents to the Center for International Students in Konstanz or uni assist.


They only have to send their documents to Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences.


Some of the Master’s degree programmes at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences are taught primarily in English.* Degree-seeking students must provide evidence of proficiency in English, by means of either

  • TOEFL internet based test min. 79 points
  • TOEFL paper based test mind. 550 points
  • IELTS mind. 6.0 overall band score
  • Cambridge CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) min. C

Most of the Master’s degree programmes at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences are taught primarily in German. Degree-seeking students must provide evidence of proficiency in German*, by means of either

DSH (Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang / German Language Examination for Academic Purposes) - DSH-2 or DSH-3 are required for admission to Heilbronn University, or

TestDaF (Test Deutsch als Fremdsprache / Test in German as a Foreign Language) - The average result must be at least TDN 4.

Application sent - what will happen next?

After sending your application documents in paper form to Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences you can log in at the following below-mentioned link. Here you can check the status of your application or still missing documents.

Information portal - status of your application

Within approx. 2 weeks after the application deadline you will get an answer of the Registration Office - even a letter of admission ("Zulassungsbescheid") or a letter of rejection ("Ablehnungsbescheid") - by post.

If there are more applicants than available study places, the places will be awarded in accordance with a ranking which is the result of a selection process. This selection process is based on the application materials submitted by the applicants. It varies from one Master programme to the next.

Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences will issue a letter of admission (Zulassungsbescheid) to all applicant who have submitted their applications within the deadline, who have satisfied the entry requirements and who have been awarded a study place as a result of the selection procedure.

In case of admission you have to enroll personally or by post within a specified period of time at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences. All applicants who have received such an offer have to accept it in writing within a ten-day deadline otherwise their right to join their chosen study programme will lapse!
