Programme Overview

The Master's programme in Intelligent Mechatronic Systems focuses on enhancing the components mechanics, electronics and computer science with artificial intelligence, machine learning and intelligent control systems. The aim is to develop autonomous, adaptive and efficient systems that can be used in a wide range of industries, from the automotive industry to robotics. The programme offers a future-oriented degree for anyone who wants to help shape the next generation of intelligent systems.

Requirements and Application

Before applying to Heilbronn University, non-German Bachelor degrees need to be recognised by Studienkolleg Konstanz or UniAssist.

Please note: Requirements of the Bachelor's degree for admission to the master's programme are

  • a grade of 2.5 or better (German grading scale)
  • 210 ECTS credits (see page 10 in the ECTS User's Guide for more information) - at least, however, 180 ECTS (conditions for acceptance do apply)
  • comparable first degree with a predominant engineering component of at least 50%.
  • Documentation of an engineering project that shows your required entrance qualification in the field of Intelligent Mechatronic Systems (Bachelor-level) together with a written confirmation from the supervisor (details see below) 
  • English language requirements: at least level B2


Please submit the following documents with your application - scheduled to start not before mid-May! 

  • Bachelor's certificate and transcript of records in German or English
  • Certificate of Recognition from Studienkolleg Konstanz or uni-assist of your international first degree. 
  • Documentation of an engineering project (machine-readable and in PDF format) worked on by the applicant (e.g. Bachelor's Thesis) 
    • of 10 to 40 pages (chapters: Introduction, Methods, Results, References), 
    • including an abstract of up to 500 words
    • topic: in the field of intelligent mechatronic systems
    • filled in Cover Sheet (see form here)
    • a written confirmation from the supervisor (either the signed cover sheet, or an e-mail sent from the supervisor's university e-mail address to master-te@hs-heilbronn.de)
  • Proof of your English language skills
  • APS certificate, if applicable
