We want to offer students with disabilities the best possible support so that they can concentrate fully on their studies. Here you will find information, resources and support to help you achieve your academic goals and succeed in your studies.
Disabilities and chronic illnesses can include both physical impairments and mental illnesses. These include physical limitations, for example, but also mental illnesses such as depression or neurodivergent conditions such as autism or ADHD.
For individual advice on planning your course of study, please contact the academic counseling for your degree programme directly. A discussion with the programme coordinator of your degree programme can also be helpful.

Please make an appointment by e-mail.
The representatives for students with disabilities will support and advise you on options such as compensation for disadvantages or extension of study time. The representatives are responsible for any form of impairment, regardless of whether physical, mental or other limitations make your studies more difficult.
Please also contact your lecturers at an early stage and inform them if you need support during lectures. This could be the use of a mobile signal transmission system, sign language interpreters, etc.

Up to five percent of the available places on a degree course can be allocated per semester as part of a so-called hardship quota.
Prospective students with disabilities must always meet the general admission requirements for studying at the desired university in order to be allowed to study there. However, it is possible to claim any disadvantages in the course of the hardship regulation when applying for a study place.
According to the admission and enrolment regulations of Heilbronn University, an informal letter about the personal situation with a detailed explanation and the relevant evidence (e.g. medical certificate) must be submitted when applying for a place.
If you have any questions regarding admission, please contact Melanie Dominke in the Academic Department.
If students with disabilities suffer a disadvantage during an examination, this should be individually compensated for in the form of so-called "disadvantage compensation".
Heilbronn University's study and examination regulations regulate this in their general section for Bachelor's degree programmes in § 8 (3) and for Master's degree programmes in § 7 (3) as follows:
"If someone can credibly demonstrate that it is not possible for them to complete preliminary examination work or examination achievements in full or in part in the intended form due to disability or chronic illness, the chairperson of the responsible examination board shall be authorised to complete the examination achievements within an extended processing time or to complete equivalent examination achievements in another form. It must be ensured that the competences to be demonstrated in the examination are also demonstrated in this other form. A medical certificate may be required for this purpose."
We recommend individual counselling in advance with our representatives at the respective campus. Such a consultation is mandatory for the permanent granting of compensation for disadvantages.
Granted compensation for disadvantages is intended to balance individual limitations and is not recorded on the transcript of records.
Please fill out the form electronically using Adobe Acrobat Reader, sign it digitally, and send it together with the relevant supporting documents.
