Diversity Management at HHN
Department for Equity and Diversity
While gender equality work has a long-standing tradition at universities, the cross-cutting issue of “Diversity Management” has only come into sharper focus over the past decade or so. In 2015, our Department for Equity and Diversity was established as a central administrative unit to strategically integrate these areas of work and embed them as a shared cross-cutting responsibility within the HHN.
You can find a comprehensive overview of our initiatives, organized by the individual dimensions of diversity, here. Each one contributes to the area of “Diversity Management.” This page provides an overview of explicitly cross-dimensional initiatives that implement diversity as a holistic approach and contribute to equal opportunity and protection against discrimination at a higher level.
In 2024, a university-wide survey on the topic of diversity was conducted. The data provides insights into the composition of the HHN community, perceptions of diversity-related aspects of the learning and working environment, and experiences of discrimination at the university. The survey represents an important milestone in the diversity efforts and serves as a key foundation for the office’s work.

The mandatory training program equips employees to act in a diversity-sensitive manner, identify risks of discrimination early on, and take effective action when necessary.

In 2023, our department underwent a comprehensive strategy and development process in collaboration with a communications agency. During this process, key messages were refined and a visual identity was developed to clearly and authentically communicate the themes of equality and diversity to the outside world. “You're exactly where you're meant to be" as the guiding principle, along with the accompanying slogans of the individual departments, now define HHN's image as an open minded and diversity-sensitive university.
