In order to pursue a doctorate at Heilbronn University, you must enroll as a doctoral candidate at the university where you will receive your primary supervision after being accepted by the Association for Doctoral Studies and re-register each semester.
We will explain the advantages of enrollment and advise you on the further course of your doctoral studies during the initial consultation. For information on the services and costs of enrollment, please click here.
Enrollment takes place in person at the Student Affairs Office by Ms. Yvonne Rietzschel.
The following information/documents are required for enrollment:
Doctoral students with a position of less than 50% at Heilbronn University are assigned to the student group. Doctoral students with a position of more than 50% are assigned to the employee group.
Employees working more than 50% of full-time hours who are enrolled at Heilbronn University must decide whether they belong to the student group or the employee group for the election to the Senate and Faculty Council in accordance with Section 3 (4) of the Election Regulations. You will be asked to do this by the election committee as part of the election announcement.
As an employee of Heilbronn University with a position of more than 50%, you have the option of deciding against the enrollment.
After your acceptance as a doctoral candidate, please submit a scanned copy of your renunciation of enrollment to the Research and Graduate Center as soon as possible. You can find the application form here under Downloads.
If, during your doctorate, you take up employment with Heilbronn University with a position of more than 50%, you must declare your withdrawal from enrollment promptly after starting employment.
Enrollment is accompanied by formal status as a student, which makes it possible to officially represent the interests of one's own doctoral student group within Heilbronn University. In addition, student status offers financial advantages, as numerous public institutions and service providers offer discounts that can help reduce ongoing costs during the doctoral phase, such as license fees or similar expenses.
In addition, the certificate of enrollment serves as important proof for tax recognition of the doctorate. This is considered to be continuing education, which means that the associated expenses, including those directly related to the dissertation, can be deducted in full as income-related expenses.
Those who decide against enrolling thus forego these financial and administrative advantages as well as the opportunity to be part of the student body within the university.
Another advantage of pursuing a doctorate at HHN is that doctoral candidates can also access the university’s student counseling services, which may be helpful in certain crisis situations.
