doctora - Supporting women on their way into science

Networking & Co-Working

Innovation Lounge

We regularly organise meetings for female doctoral students to enable them to network and establish supportive contacts. New and interested female doctoral students are advised to register directly for the Young Scientist Network or send a short email to Melanie Müller-Mugele or Kristina Epple.

Between October 2025 and January 2026, four co-working sessions are planned for doctoral students associated with HHN at the Urban Innovation Hub (uih!) in Heilbronn city centre:

  • Monday, 13 October 2025 | 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, 15 November 2025 | 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday, 17 December 2025 | 2:00 p.m.–7:00 p.m.
  • Friday, 16 January 2026 | 9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Prospective doctoral students who are preparing for a doctorate are also welcome. The co-working space on the first floor offers various work areas (individual workstations with monitors, workshop tables, high tables and a coffee lounge).

No advance registration is necessary – just drop by, meet your peers and get down to work.

Doctoral orientation

We want to encourage women to consider a career in science and, if appropriate, to pursue a doctorate.

To this end, we offer regular workshops and individual counselling.

Support for female doctoral students

We provide female doctoral candidates with individual support tailored to their needs.

To this end, we first assess their needs in a personal consultation. Together, we plan the next steps to provide the best possible support. We can assist in the search for suitable mentors or offer small-scale financial support.

Ursula Ida Lapp-Scholarship

The Ursula Ida Lapp Scholarship supports a female doctoral candidate in the MINT subjects.

Future calls for applications will be announced here.

11 February marks the annual International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This day of action recognises the crucial role of women and girls in science and technology, and aims to encourage, promote and support them.

In this context, the Department for Equity and Diversity would like to highlight the achievements of female scientists at Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences: Female scientists at HHN introduce themselves, provide insight into their work and explain their motivations for pursuing a scientific career.
