Statutory requirements

The Gender Equality Officer takes part in the enforcement of constitutionally required equal opportunities for women and men and the elimination of existing disadvantages. The legal bases arise from the State Higher Education Act and the relevant university statutes. Extracts from the most important provisions are given in this overview.

HHN Basic Regulations

At Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences, the Gender Equality Officer and her three deputies are responsible for the statutory equal opportunities mandate. The term of office is two years. The Gender Equality Officers report directly to the Rectorate and are not bound by instructions in the performance of their duties.

Duties of the Gender Equality Officer:

  • Support for appointment procedures for professors, including individual counselling of applicants
  • Monitoring of staffing procedures for academic employees
  • Individual counselling of professors, academic staff and students of HNN in gender equality matters
  • Committee work
  • Conceptual-strategic collaboration on all equality issues at HHN   

Among others, a Gender Equality Officer is a member of the following committees:

  • Senate, voting member
  • University Council, advisory member
  • Faculty Councils, advisory member
  • Appointment commissions for professors, voting member
  • Senate Commission on Equality and Diversity, member
  • Senate Committee for Studies and Teaching, voting member   

Equality Reports

The Gender Equality Officer reports annually in a public Senate and University Council meeting on the status and development of gender equality work and the development of gender equality indicators at the Heilbronn University.

Equal Opportunities Plan

The equal opportunities plan describes development goals of the university in the field of academic staff and students. It contains key indicators and objectives as well as measures to promote gender equality. The equal opportunities plan for 2020-25 is currently being prepared.
