Contribute

Who may contribute to this project?

Everybody is invited to contribute to the PROSIT Community and everybody may benefit from these wiki pages!

All information including the disease models are available without the need to register.

Types of Contributions

Not every participant must be a modeller!

  • We also need e.g. physicians, who can contribute their medical knowledge. If not on a regular basis then on request/question of a modelling team.
  • There is a constant need for staff checking the writing and helping in publications as most of the participants are not native speakers.
  • Quality assurance...
  • ...Validating and testing are constant construction sites

You are cordially invited to seek and find your very personal involvement in this community. And: Don't be afraid of making mistakes! If you accidentally make an incorrect contribution (eg. regarding the language), someone else will correct them. This is the advantage of an open community. But anyhow, please read the basic rules below and try to adhere to them.

Registering

Active users are kindly asked to register. For this procedure simply click on the log-in link in the right upper corner of the web page. There you can create also a new account for you. You only need a user name and a valid e-mail address. That's all.

After the registration

  • Just click on the edit-link in the header of each editable page.
  • You also have then a personal page. To access your personal page simply click on your user name in the top line of the web page and edit the content of the initially blank page. We invite you to add a short introduction to yourself, that everybody is able to have informations about the authors of the models and documents in this wiki.
  • It is helpful to read about the Rights and Rules in this wiki community
  • Please do always sign your contributions. Simply, by entering four times the sign ~ after your contribution
  • We distinguish between "approved content" and "free content". Approved content is released by the system operators and the editorial teams. These pages mark content which is believed to be valid and not subject to frequent editing. This symbol marks these pages:  In case of questions and suggestions contact the editorial team of this specific model (member list or discussion pages) To mark a page containing approved content, please use the template {{approved_content}}, which will expand to

How to develop a PROSIT Disease Model?

Starting a development thread

Everybody is invited to contribute to this Community and everybody may start a new development thread. Simply add your project to the wiki pages. Please keep in mind that developments only on your own means really a lot of work. To begin working here, we recommend that you join an ongoing project.

Development

The development follows the rules of good disease modelling. All development should be transparent. Therefore you are asked to open all sources of evidence and information that you use to the public:

  • First comes a thorough literature assessment (data acquisition). We prefer to grade the level of evidence of literature by means of the Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN). Within a development thread modellers may agree on different grading schemes such as the MERGE or the GRADE scheme or others. Within one thread one method must be applied.
  • After laying the evidence on the table the structure of a model must be agreed
  • At the same time the perspective of an analysis and a possible research question should be named
  • After the fixing of a model structure the modelling thread will be assigned with an official project name. This will be done by the forum administrators. Of course you are entitled to suggest a name and most suggestions will be followed. Nevertheless the last decision is up to the forum administrators.
  • Then work on the transition probabilities and the model functions starts. You may of course use any existing PROSIT model to copy functions, design and content for your work
  • Developing a cost data set is another important and independent task for the disease model
  • After a first running model is available you may ask the forum administrators to assign a version number to your model. Now the time has come for the first time to go public with your model and ask people to comment to your work
  • Validating and testing results of your model are other important tasks that should be made available to the people and be published here in the forum
  • Modelling is quite complex: therefore special attention should be paid to screen design and usability of your model. Sample cases and step-to-step guidance for unexperienced users are considered being helpful to the people.
  • For conducting studies and the reporting of study results obtained with PROSIT disease models, please check with our PROSIT Publication Guidance.

Versioning

  • All official version numbers are assigned by the forum administrators. No versioning on your own.

Release Candidates & Model Releases

  • The forum administrators agree on the first release and thereafter yearly releases of the model. All releases are marked by an official version number and are available for download to the public. This includes previous versions.
  • A "release candidate" is published before launching a new version. A public commentary phase of at least four weeks helps to identify final need for optimising the final PROSIT model release.

PROSIT user meetings

  • At least once a year a PROSIT modelling meeting will be held starting with the year 2008. For this purpose regularly workshops are organised. The announcements are being made here in the forum.
