IT Buddy Program

Why Buddy Program?

Every semester, international exchange students (incomings) come to Heilbronn University and embark on the unknown adventure of a semester abroad in a foreign country. This often means that they are confronted with many new challenges, be it the integration in a foreign country, the culture or the language barrier...

The idea of the Buddy Program is to give our incoming international exchange students a good start into student life. 

A buddy is a reliable contact person who supports  incoming students with academic and personal matters during the semester and helps the incoming students with their intercultural exchange. 

Registration is open for Winter Semester 2024/25!

Why Should You Become a Buddy?

  1. Global Friendships: make new friends/acquaintances, build lasting relationships with students from diverse cultures and backgrounds, create a worldwide network of friends and future colleagues.
  2. Personal Growth: Enhance your interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills—qualities that are highly valued in the IT industry.
  3. Cultural Exchange: expand your intercultural competence, learn something new about another country, experience a rich cultural exchange that will broaden your horizons and offer fresh perspectives on both academic and personal fronts.
  4. Community Contribution: Play a pivotal role in creating a welcoming and supportive environment for exchange students, making their transition smoother and more enjoyable.
  5. Prepare for your own exchange semester: your buddy comes from our partner university, a unique opportunity to get first-hand information and prepare for your exchange semester. Earn plus points for your application for semester abroad. The experience and contact can also be a great preparation for a semester abroad, etc...
  6. Language skill: improve your English or learn other language
  7. Opportunity to earn 1 ECTS: receive a certificate for your effort +  1 ECTS in Studium Generale (by fulfilling ECTS conditions)
  8. Be part of HHN: Receive a gratis HHN T-shirt
  9. Career Boost: Stand out in the job market by showcasing your volunteer experience and your ability to work in a multicultural setting

What do we expect from you?

We are looking for IT students (students from other campuses who are willing and able to travel to Sontheim occasionally are also welcome) who are approachable, enthusiastic, and eager to make a difference. 

No prior experience is required—just a willingness to help and a positive attitude!

  • are open to other people and cultures
  • enjoy intercultural learning
  • want to help international students with questions about studying and living in Heilbronn
  • are willing to take time for your buddy
  • participate in joint events (Scheduling, exam registration, get-togethers)
