Last InduKo-Workshop

We had the last InduKo project workshop of the year 2023 on Monday.

It was nice to see how far the sub projects have been developed and how many ideas we could find to integrate the subprojects to increase the value for our target group, the students, researchers and professors of the university.

ICERI 2023

It was a great experience at ICERI 2023 conference on Education, Research and Innovation. We have presented our work in the field of projectbased learning in Computer Science in higher education and had great discussions.

We also had an engaging information exchange with colleagues of other universities about AI in education and applications of ChatGPT in lectures.

Opening of Innovation Spaces

#makeithappen - The result is not always the goal, sometimes it is the way to get there.

Initiated by the STARTKLAR start-up center and donated by the Arnfried and Hannelore Meyer Foundation, the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences now offers 2 new rooms for innovative romp: The Makerspace and the DigiLab.

With a total of 300m² of versatile prototyping world, students now have space for AI, virtual reality, 3D modulation and gaming, among other things.

The newly created platform is intended to encourage students, researchers and cooperation partners in the regional ecosystem to jointly develop projects, start-up projects and formats that bring something new into the world and accelerate the transfer of innovation to the region.

Let's Talk Digital: Human-Computer-Interaction & AI

The interaction of people and machines in our everyday work and life is nothing new. So far it has been the human being who has told the machine what to do and the machine has carried it out. In recent years, however, there has been movement and change in this interplay. The increasing collaboration between humans and machines leads to a changed distribution of tasks with the use of artificial intelligence.

Machines take over routine activities, observe and prepare options for action and act with foresight. The aim of human-computer interaction (HCI) is to shape these changes in the interests of humans.

Train-the-Trainer: "Die Chance für mehr Interaktivität in projektbasierten Lehrveranstaltungen"

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought universities to a new situation. Some students were unable to complete their internship or semester abroad as planned, and this led to an increase in the number of students participating in classes at their home institution. Also, the courses that used to take place in-person needed to be transformed to online courses with the consequent lack of the traditional interactions among students and lecturers, so new approaches, which are often supervision intensive, are needed to keep the students engaged. Therefore, we developed a Train-the-Trainer concept by designing a model based on coaching, peer-tutoring, and learning exchanges. Here we are expanding the traditional tutor concept to assure the following overarching goals:

1. Providing the course participants with intensive small-scaled supervision during the online teaching sessions.

2. Giving more responsibility to more senior students, the ‘Junior Coaches’, to deepen their knowledge.

We have applied this model in two case studies and have evaluated the concept based on a Mixed Methods Research Design. The results showed that all three user groups of Lecturers, Junior Coach and course participants appreciated this approach.
