The levels of German as a foreign language courses are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The Guidelines for German as a Foreign Language set out the guidelines that students have to be followed:

The written placement test takes place online. The students will be informed promptly. Registration for the placement test with Hannelore Lang and Kathrin Koç from the International Office. According to the test results, students will be assigned to one of the seven level groups.

Information for complete beginners of German: Please note that you'll receive an e-mail with instructions on how to join your German class at the end of September.

Information for all other students of German: You'll receive an e-mail with information on the entrance exam at the end of September.

Participation in all German courses is compulsory.

Exchange students who study in Heilbronn for more than one semester are automatically promoted to the next higher course in the following semester if they pass the exam. If they wish to skip a course level, they have to take the placement test again.

Participation in more than one German course during a semester is possible in individual cases and after consultation with all participating lecturers. Please send an informal application (in writing) to Christa Wanek-Baumann.
