Project description:

Prof. Schloeder’s (PhD) teaching module 'National and International Aspects of Social Management' prepares students for national and international aspects of social and health management. In order to prepare the students not only professionally but also interculturally in the best possible way for their future everyday working life or for a job in international development cooperation, the idea arose to enrich the students' learning experience with the help of the collaboration with an international partner university in Zimbabwe through a COIL project.

COIL stands for Collaborative Online International Learning and is a special form of virtual exchange. It describes collaborative international teaching and learning formats and enables intercultural experiences for teachers and students by digital means. It focuses on joint project work by students on a subject-specific topic in an international environment.

On the occasion of mutual visits of Prof. Schloeder (Phd) and Dr. Songo to the respective partner universities, the students in the respective countries attended introductory lectures on the importance of ‘Mental Health’. Prof. Schloeder (PhD) who specializes in Health Management and Health Psychology visited MSUAS in September 2022 and in April 2023, Dr. Songo (Department of Psychology and Human Resource Management) at MSUAS visited HHN in April 2023.

Inspired by the students' enthusiasm for this topic, the idea of a study on the importance of mental health among students at Manicaland State University in Zimbabwe was born. The study was quickly incorporated into the teaching module 'National and International Aspects of Social Management'.

In a pilot phase in the summer term 2023, the students managed to shed light on certain aspects of this study supported by Prof. Schloeder (PhD) and Dr. Songo and developed a questionnaire. It is planned that in a later phase of the collaboration, the study with the same questions will be transferred to the HHN in order to be able to find out about similarities and differences considering the background of the different cultural conditions.

The implementation of the COIL project will begin in the winter semester 2023-2024. For this purpose, the students of both universities will be introduced to the special significance of this topic in theory and practice in close collaboration with the teaching staff.
