For over 20 years, we have established structures and services to support all HHN members who have family responsibilities – whether for children or relatives in need of care.
For students with aring responsibilities
For fathers, mothers and expectant mothers: the Family Service
Are you pregnant or do you already have children? The Family Service is happy to help with any questions or challenges you may have regarding studying and parenthood, for example regarding
- arrangements for student parents (postponing exams, family-friendly study schedules, extending the duration of studies)
- student finance when you have a child
- childcare options at the various campuses.

For students with relatives in need of care
Students may also find themselves in a situation where they have to care for close relatives whilst studying: this is the reality for one in ten students at HHN. This responsibility can place an enormous strain on students, which is why HHN has developed special support measures and procedures to help.

For employees with child(ren)
You can find a general overview of all our family-friendly initiatives on our Family Service page. In addition, we provide staff with a dedicated ‘Family FAQs’ section in German on the intranet. Here you will find, amongst other things, everything you need to know about:
- Current processes and regulations (parental leave, reporting a child’s illness, remote working, and much more)
- Childcare provision and nursery places
- Children on campus (e.g. parent-child rooms, bring-your-child-to-work day)
For employees with relatives in need of care
One in three of our employees is responsible for a family member in need of care. Balancing care responsibilities with work presents an enormous challenge, but we won’t leave you to face it alone. In our Care FAQs in German, you’ll find important information as well as details of our network of in-house care advisors who are on hand to help you.
