University Big Band
Making feel-good music together! The HHN Big Band is open to students, staff, and faculty. Rehearsals are on Wednesdays from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Heilbronn TechCampus in the KnowCube.
- We play in classic big band formation:
- Rhythm section: Bass, drums, piano, guitar
- Woodwinds: 2 alto saxophones, 2 tenor saxophones, baritone saxophone
- Brass: 4 trumpets and 4 trombones
- (Solo) vocals (male/female)
The goal is to make music together and have fun while doing it. Along the way, soft skills such as teamwork, team coordination, motivation, discipline, social skills, etc. are fostered, and a meeting opportunity is created at the university – because the band meets after rehearsal for socializing and getting to know each other at a student pub ("Stammtisch").

The greatest sin a musician can commit is to play notes instead of making music.
Team spirit comes first! How do we turn sheet music into music, how can we listen to each other well (not so easy with over 15 musicians) and support each other, how do we move forward together?
We discuss the pieces, make decisions together, and live democracy – from concerts to song selection.
Do you play one of the mentioned instruments and have a passion for classic swing and blues, in the style of Michael Bublé, Harry Connick Jr., Count Basie…?
You should master your instrument, but above all, be there with enthusiasm and joy of playing. Improvisation skills are not necessary, but reading music is a requirement. Once a year, an intensive rehearsal workshop with professional musicians is planned to continuously develop the musical abilities of all band sections.
