Our family service offers confidential advice and support for fathers, mothers, and pregnant women. Whether you are studying or working at HHN: we are here for you so that you can be there for others.

Are you pregnant or already have children? The Family Service is happy to help you with any questions or challenges you may have regarding studying and parenthood.
For individual advice on planning your studies, please contact the academic advisor for your degree program or the degree program coordinators directly.
Dear colleagues, here you will also find an initial overview of the many services offered by the Familienservice. Please also refer to the FAQ Family for information on balancing work and parenthood.
We are happy to advise you during your pregnancy and recommend that you register it. This will ensure that your rights under the Maternity Protection Act are protected.
Please fill out the pregnancy notification form (see forms available for download) and forward it to Family Services. We will then contact you and take the necessary steps. Breastfeeding mothers are also protected by law.
According to the General SPO (§ 8 (3) BA or § 7 (3) MA), special regulations apply to you regarding compensation for disadvantages in examinations whose examination period falls within the statutory maternity leave period.
Please speak to the program director or lecturers to find out which examinations can be converted into alternative forms of examination. The application form for the examination board can be found in the download area. Once you have completed the application form, submit it to the Family Service.
When statutory maternity leave begins, you are entitled to special leave. You can take up to 6 semesters of leave per child up to the age of 10 for “childcare” purposes. All information on the leave process can be found here.
Please note that BAFöG will not be paid if you are on leave.
For two years now, HHN has been holding regular children's open days. On these days, children are welcome to come and discover, craft, and tinker. Demand is growing: more than 50 children attended the last event during the fall break in 2025. Heilbronn University is thus demonstrating how important it is to meet the needs of families and create a working and studying environment that meets both academic and family requirements.
When your children come to the office with you, they shouldn't get bored. Our HHN children's suitcases, which can be borrowed at all four locations, offer plenty of activities thanks to craft materials, coloring pages, puzzles, books, and much more.
Please register your needs with the respective office, either by phone or email. Our colleagues can tell you everything you need to know about availability and office hours.
