Entry requirements

The Master in Software Engineering is feasible for you, if:

• you own a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely-related field, or
  
  
• you own a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in another field, and can submit proof of academic and/or vocational experience in computer science gained over a period of at least three years.
  

Please note: the admission process will be based on the first degree/BA degree. Master degrees will not be taken into consideration.

In order to accelerate student admission and visa processing for Indian students, the German government introduces the Academic Evaluation Centre (APS), attached to the Science Section of the German Embassy in New Delhi.

From November 1st onwards, APS certificates will be a mandatory part of the documents to be submitted with your visa application. The visa section has already updated the checklist for students, see here.

For more detailed information on how to obtain the mandatory APS certificate, please consult www.aps-india.de Please bear in mind that the visa section will not answer any queries regarding the APS.

Applicants need an APS certificate before booking an appointment to submit a visa application from November 1^st onwards.

1. starting October 1st: apply for APS-certificate
2. obtain fresh letter of admission for summer semester or winter semester
3. book your appointment via VFS website after having obtained the APS-certificate

Applicants from China and Vietnam have to submit the certificate of APS ("Akademische Prüfstelle") as well.

Applicants with a first degree from a non-German institute must prove, before applying to Heilbronn University, that their Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a German first degree. This means they have to apply twice – once at the Studienkolleg Konstanz and once at our university. In order to have the qualifications validated, please contact the Studienkolleg – Center for International Students in Konstanz.

The Center for International Students will assess their Bachelor's degree and decide if it meets the requirements for entering a Master's degree program in Germany.

The Center for International Students will confirm recognition with a paper of validation which must be sent together with the appropriate application to the university.

Please note the differing application deadlines of the Center for International Students in Konstanz:

• June 1st for winter term

Your application can only be considered if all required documents (including the certification of the Studienkolleg Konstanz) reached Heilbronn University on the due date (January 15th for the summer semester and July 15th for the winter semester). Please note that these are cut-off periods.

We require a first degree of 210 ETCS credits. Applicants with a first degree in computer science who have achieved a minimum of 180 ECTS credits may also apply! They will be requested to obtain an extra 30 ECTS credits in appropriate Bachelor program at Heilbronn University (e.g. in the Bachelor's program Software Engineering) or by conducting a six month internship in a company or in one of our research institutes.

As the Master´s program is entirely delivered in English, it is particularly suitable for applicants from the EU and overseas who are eligible for postgraduate studies in Germany. 

You have to prove your English skills by

• Providing evidence of your high level of proficiency in English equivalent to at least:
  • TOEFL paper-based version 550, or
  • TOEFL computer-based version 213, or
  • TOEFL internet-based version 79 (TOEFL code for Heilbronn University 2751), or
  • IELTS minimum 6.0, or
  • Cambridge Certificate CAE minimum C, or
  • AACSB English B2 Ability Test minimum approved
  • Oxford Test of English (>= 120 points and B2 in all modules)
    
    

The TOEFL code of Heilbronn University is 2751.

Please note: 

• the proof of language is compulsory (an English Bachelor's degree or working experience does not compensate for IELTS or any other test). 
• No other certificates are accepted

Please note that suitable proofs do not include:

• TOEFL ITP
• A first degree completely taught in English
• Certificates issued by universities
