Entry Requirements
The following-mentioned admission requirements comply with the statues of the Master's programme Software Engineering and Management which can be downloaded here.
Diploma or Bachelor Degree
The Master in Software Engineering and Management is feasible for you, if:
- you hold a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely-related field, or
- you hold a Diploma or Bachelor's degree in another field, and can submit proof of academic and/or vocational experience in computer science gained over a period of at least three years.
Grade
Applicants should have an excellent or good European first degree (a German averade grade of 2.5 or better) or an equivalent international qualification (as a rule, awarded with distinction, but finally we need your ASK certificate to check it).
ECTS Equivalence
We require a first degree of 210 ETCS credits. Applicants who have achieved a minimum of 180 ECTS credits may also apply; they will be requested to obtain an extra 30 ECTS credits in appropriate Bachelor programmes at Heilbronn University (e.g. in the Bachelor's programme Software Engineering).
If your first degree is equivalent to more than 210 ECTS credits in relevant contents, we may accept some of your courses beforehand. Therefore, you can apply after getting admission in the Master´s programme Software Engineering and Management.
Prerequisite Knowledge and Experience
Your first degree or other educational/vocational experience should prove the following prerequisites:
- Good programming skills in at least one modern programming language
- Sound knowledge of mathematics
- Ability of abstract logical thinking
- Some experience in and with software development projects
Language Skills
As the Master´s programme is entirely delivered in English, it is particularly suitable for applicants from the EU and overseas who are eligible for postgraduate studies in Germany. You have to prove your English skills by

Provide evidence of your high level of proficiency in English (not older than two years at date of enrollment) equivalent to at least:
- TOEFL paperbased version 550, or
- TOEFL computer-based version 213, or
- TOEFL internet-based version 79 (TOEFL code for Heilbronn University 2751), or
- IELTS minimum 6.0, or
- Cambridge Certificate CAE minimum C.
